At the start of the project I manage to squeeze in some early morning walks offering the ability to gain my bearings of the local neighbourhood and to utilise the better light including that between the buildings (Tripoli, Libya)

View of our neighbourhood towards the numerous corner stores, further the souk and beyond the Mediterranean. The local buildings are a mix of Italian influenced with defined character and the newer less aesthetically fulfilling developments. (Tripoli, Libya)

A nation that's pretty proud of their flag with them featured and littered everywhere. These ones are a smaller example of their much larger canopy like ones at the other end of Martyr Square. As for the square a quiet place during the day where as night when the uninviting sun disappears its a hub of activity whether its the dress ups, gazelles to the hospitable offers of tea. Closed... After some assistance from our Fixer/security followed by jumping the gate to obtain the key (hidden under a rock) we gained entry into this renowned Roman UNESCO site. An vivid and impacting entry to such an iconic site where we were the only visitors. Helps when there are no tourists in the country (and its closed). (Leptis Magna, Libya)

Hard to appreciate the scale but despite the size the whole arch features intricate detail throughout. So much importance and value worked into the various arches despite their lack of valid function. Nice to see such a structure without scaffolding, helps when there is little restoration works taking place. (Leptis Magna, Libya)

Up a steep stairwell, through the tight gap of a gate and bouldering up a crumbling wall to offer a view to appreciate the scale of the once thriving and grandiose Roman city. It was big. Our informal wanderings was due to no signage, paths or guide to offer further direction and insight. (Leptis Magna, Libya)

The tight doorway led into this open space, the former market. An impressive setting now despite being empty and quiet with the latter offering the opportunity to try and envision the hustle and bustle of everyday life of the city 2000 years ago. (Leptis Magna, Libya)

The cliche (and very real) Roman amphitheater with the turquoise Mediterranean forming a background. Remarkable that most of the columns are still standing, easing ones imagination to the events once held. (Leptis Magna, Libya)

Whilst taking this photo I was questioned by the police of my intent, passport and hotel location. Managed to explain that I was working with staff of adjoining local municipality building and walked on with a wave from the officer. As for the photo its a small example of how much they do love that flag. (Tripoli, Libya)

A common site, works that are yet to be completed with buildings in dire need of some love. Always wonder if instead of random repairs they just focused on one road, building, neighbourhood and then once completed move onto the next. I figure perhaps there are currently slightly more important priorities. (Tripoli, Libya)

Just one example of a massive development that was reportedly started over 10 years ago and has since ground to a halt. Seems that international investment into the country is into other perhaps less beneficial interests. This said its an eyesore of a building so perhaps not a bad thing that this example won't go any further. (Tripoli, Libya)

A middle eastern styled doorway in the middle east. One among a plethora of others. Appreciate that this featured some rare greenery coupled with the yellow detailing, a valid attempt to offset the monotone, hot and dusty city. (Tripoli, Libya)

Wandering the lane ways of the souk whilst looking up when the common arches and canopies allowed. As is often the case the sky is punctured by the needle like minaret of the local mosque. Offering a place of worship for locals and a beacon of location for others. (Tripoli, Libya)
