Tunis - Tunisia
Tourist images of Tunis over a couple of days
Stencil art
The old meets the new with some traditional tiles framing some recent street art (Tunis, Tunisia)
Russian Orthodox Church
The church seemingly holding out in its location as its surrounded by the modern (Tunis, Tunisia)
Subtle architecture
This building straight out of the Soviet architecture textbook is empty but its lack of function is easily eclipsed by its dominant aesthetic, offering it new purpose. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Subtle architecture
Fashion over function... with a form that punches further into the void the higher it goes. Hopefully despite its current decrepit state its once again returned to its former glory. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Wandering the medina
Zaytuna Mosque
A beacon within the souk when the covers are lifted. Its clean more modern aesthetic offers difference to the adjoining aging infrastructure. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Zaytuna Mosque
Slipping in through a backdoor to the common area of the mosque (Zaytuna Mosque, Tunis, Tunisia)
City hall
A more modern and dominating building, something that one would expect to see built in Central Asia. Foreground plaza is a local skate spot. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Rue Sidi Ben Arous
The western area of the souk where less hassles for magnets and carpets encourage more relaxed exploring through its traditional and residential lanes. Some great spots to sip tea and appreciate that you're in Tunis. (Tunis, Tunisia)
The (yellow) doorways of Tunis
Fortunately for the visitor they do love to paint their typical doorways. (Tunis, Tunisia)
The (blue) doorways of Tunis
Similar colour to my own front door just that mine tells a much shorter history and no doubt is less interesting on the inside. (Tunis, Tunisia)
The (aqua) doorways of Tunis
Exploring beyond the souk offered assurances that the doors are not just painted for the tourists. (Tunis, Tunisia)
My tea guy (when in Tunis)
Whenever I am in Tunis this is my tea guy... Walking by early one morning coffee was his only option so later in the day when passing he called me as the tea was ready to go. I was joined by a local man who very subtly attempted to led me to his shop. (Tunis, Tunisia)
My tea (when in Tunis)
Said tea (with only the mandatory 3 spoonfuls of sugar). (Tunis, Tunisia)
Shop owner/potential seadog
My corner store with who I assume is the owner and who could easily play the part of a crusty sailor. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Tunisian sandwich
I seen a queue and joined said queue with the assumed assurance that it must be good. Not entirely sure what was in the sandwich but it was worth the wait after my attempt in French of 'I'll have the special'. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Corner cafe
Couldn't be anymore of a corner cafe than this one. My lack of coffee drinking meant I didn't get to appreciate what the constant queue was for. (Tunis, Tunisia)
Cathedral of St Vincent de Paul
Leaving the souk and you're on the modern day boulevards with formal stores, bustling business crowds, heavy military presence and the dominating church. (Tunis, Tunisia)
